Dogs frequently experience skin and coat problems as well as allergies, which can significantly impact their well-being. Common issues include dermatitis, hot spots, and parasitic infestations like fleas and mites, leading to itching, redness, and hair loss. Allergies, caused by food, environmental factors, or contact allergens, can manifest as chronic itching, ear infections, and skin infections. These conditions can cause persistent discomfort and can be challenging to diagnose and manage.
It is estimated that up to 10% of dogs suffer from skin allergies, with certain breeds being more predisposed to these problems. Treatment often involves allergen avoidance, medicated baths, dietary changes, and medications to control symptoms and improve skin health. Early prevention and management of these issues with appropriate nutritional supplements can greatly improve skin and coat condition.

What does our Valsam Vet SKIN & COAT contain?
Green Lipped Mussel – contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for numerous cellular functions. Omega-3s play a role in the maintenance of healthy skin structure, functions and coat. It also helps reduce inflammation and supports healthy skin and coat. Its anti-inflammatory properties can alleviate symptoms of allergic reactions.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) – an antioxidant with proven anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to have high antioxidant capacity, with its main function to neutralize free radicals within the body, protecting cells from oxidative damage. ALA also serves as an enzyme co-factor, involved in numerous essential processes in the body. In addition, it contributes to the repair of damaged proteins and lipids and the regeneration of other important antioxidants such as vitamin E, vitamin C, and coenzyme Q10. Furthermore, it can reduce inflammation and improve immune response, potentially alleviating allergy symptoms.
Zinc – an essential mineral, which regulates multiple processes of cellular metabolism, such as skin cell regeneration and repair. Many of these processes are critical for the maintenance of a healthy coat. For this reason, Zinc is especially important for the rapidly dividing cells of the body, such as the epidermal skin cells.
Vitamin E – a fat-soluble vitamin with a significant antioxidant function in the body, which, similarly to ALA, confers protection against free radicals. Vitamin E protects skin cells from oxidative damage and promotes a healthy coat.
Vitamin C – an antioxidant with similar function. Vitamin C is also needed for collagen production and healthy skin.
Selenium – a mineral that acts as an antioxidant in the body, essential for the integrity of cell membranes, helps protect skin cells from damage.
Copper – an antioxidant, which is important for the function of many enzymes in the body. Copper is involved in the formation of melanin – the pigment responsible for the dark color of hair and skin and subsequently skin & coat health.
B Vitamins – the group of B vitamins are essential cofactors to enzymes, involved in a number of functions in the body. They are not stored in the body, so daily consumption is important to maintain good health. Sufficient supply of the B vitamins can help support healthy skin and coat. They support cell metabolism and regeneration. B Vitamins boost immune function and reduce inflammation
Methionine – an essential amino acid, involved in a variety of metabolic processes. It supports healthy hair and skin by contributing to keratin production. Essential amino acids are required for the normal growth and repair of body tissues. Methionine also serves as a precursor for other amino acids and can be converted to its antioxidant form.
Ginger – a plant with potent anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that promote healthy skin. The main active compounds in ginger are called gingerols. Ginger can help reduce symptoms of allergies by modulating the immune response.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin – the two compounds play a role in the synthesis of collagen and they support skin hydration and elasticity. In addition, Chondroitin has the ability to enhance the synthesis of hyaluronic acid, while Glucosamine has anti-inflammatory properties that can help manage allergic reactions.
Calcium and Phosphorus – these are the two most abundant minerals found in the body, essential for the development of growing dogs. They work synergistically by aiding in cell regeneration for the growth and maintenance of healthy skin and hair.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) – a compound with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help reduce allergy symptoms. MSM supports collagen production and skin health, promoting a shiny coat.
Vitamin D3 supports skin health by promoting healthy cell growth and repair. It helps maintain the barrier function of the skin, preventing dryness and irritation. It also modulates the immune system, potentially reducing the severity of allergic reactions and inflammation.
Manganese Sulphate – Manganese is vital for the production of collagen, which is important for skin strength and elasticity. It helps maintain healthy skin and coat by supporting the synthesis of connective tissue. It also has antioxidant properties that protect skin cells from damage and inflammation caused by allergic reactions.
L-Lysine is an essential amino acid that contributes to collagen formation, promoting healthy skin and coat. It helps maintain the structure and integrity of the skin. It also supports immune function, which can help in managing allergic responses.
Iron is crucial for the production of hemoglobin, which ensures adequate oxygen supply to skin and hair follicles. Proper oxygenation is essential for maintaining a healthy coat and skin.
